About us
A driveway contractor that stayed small on purpose
Marathon Paving is a family-run residential paving company working out of Worcester. We do driveways. Not parking lots, not roadwork, not line striping, and nothing we would have to hand to somebody else to finish.
Why only driveways
Plenty of paving companies will take anything with asphalt on it. The problem with that is scheduling. When a commercial lot and a residential driveway are on the same calendar, the driveway is what moves, because the lot is worth more and has a penalty clause attached.
Staying residential means your date is a real date. It also means the crew does the same kind of work every day and gets good at the parts that matter on a home driveway: tight access, existing landscaping, the transition at the garage threshold, and not tearing up a lawn getting equipment to the back of a property.
How we work
We quote what we find, not what sells
If your base is sound we will tell you an overlay is enough, even though a replacement is worth several times more to us. A customer who works out five years later that they were oversold is a customer we lose twice, once on the referral and once on the review.
Depths go on the quote
A quote that says 'pave driveway' and one that specifies compacted base depth are not describing the same job even when the prices look similar. Ours says the depth. That gives you something to hold us to and something honest to compare against other bids.
Our own crew, every job
Nothing is subcontracted. The person who measures your driveway is on site the day it gets paved. That is the whole reason we stay residential and stay inside a thirty mile radius rather than chasing bigger work further out.
We look uphill first
Almost every driveway that fails early fails because of water. Before we quote a surface we look at where water arrives from and where it goes. Paving over a drainage problem is the most common way homeowners end up paying for the same driveway twice.
Where we work
Twenty towns across Worcester County, all inside about 30 miles of Worcester. That radius is a deliberate limit rather than an ambition we have not reached yet. It is how far a crew can travel and still give you a real start time, and how far we can come back inside a day if something needs looking at after the job is done.
It also means we know the ground. The triple-decker drives in Worcester are a different job from the long rural approaches out in Charlton, and both are different again from the frost depth up in Rutland and Paxton. A contractor working a hundred mile radius is guessing at that.
We are registered to work in Massachusetts and carry liability insurance. We will give you the numbers rather than just asserting it, and they go out with every written quote.

Owner
Teddy Labonte
Teddy Labonte founded Marathon Paving. He came up in the trade first, working as a carpenter through his late teens and into his twenties, and he has founded companies of his own before this one. That experience running a business already is part of why Marathon Paving stays deliberately small: residential driveways only, no subcontractors, and a crew he can stand behind on every job.
His path into construction was not the usual one. Before framing anything, Teddy worked in plastics, machine work, and extrusion, trades where a part off by a fraction of a degree does not pass inspection. That standard carried over. A driveway base that is a couple of inches too shallow, or pitched the wrong way, fails for the same reason a bad extrusion does: quietly at first, then all at once. It is why base depth, mix type, and pitch go on every Marathon Paving quote in writing, not just mentioned once and forgotten.
The principles on this page are not a marketing line. Quoting what a driveway actually needs instead of what sells the bigger job, keeping the crew in house, looking uphill before looking at the asphalt: that is the standard Teddy set from the start, and it is still how the company runs.
