Marathon Paving in Worcester County, MA

We are a residential paving contractor based in Worcester and working across Worcester County, roughly a thirty mile radius from the city. Driveways only. We do not take on commercial work at this time, which means the crew that quotes your job is the crew that does it and we are not juggling a parking lot against your driveway.

What Worcester County does to a driveway

This county covers a lot of ground and the conditions are not uniform. Worcester itself is hills and dense triple-decker streets with short steep drives and shared access. Twenty minutes north into Holden, Rutland and Sterling the drives run a hundred feet or more and the frost goes deeper. South into Sutton and Charlton you hit ledge and long gravel approaches. East toward Northborough and Westborough the housing is newer and most of the work is resurfacing subdivision drives that have reached the end of a service life.

The one thing every part of the county shares is the freeze-thaw cycle. Water gets into a crack, freezes, widens it, and does that repeatedly from November through March. A driveway that was built without proper base depth and without drainage will show it here faster than it would almost anywhere else in the country.

The watershed towns

A meaningful part of the county drains toward the Wachusett Reservoir, which supplies drinking water to Greater Boston. Holden, West Boylston, Rutland, Sterling and parts of Boylston sit inside that watershed, and Southborough sits within the Sudbury Reservoir watershed.

In practical terms, replacing a driveway on the same footprint is normally straightforward in those towns. Adding pavement, extending a drive or changing where runoff leaves the property is where stormwater rules apply. Any contractor working regularly in this part of the county should be raising that before quoting rather than after, and we do.

How we work

Estimates are free, done on site rather than over the phone, and put in writing with the work itemized so you can compare it line by line against anybody else. We respond daily and aim to have the written quote to you within twenty four hours of the visit.

We book two to four weeks out during the season, which runs roughly April through November. Most residential jobs take one to three days. We ask for fifty percent to book with the balance on completion, we take cash or check, and our workmanship carries a one year warranty put in writing on the quote rather than mentioned verbally.
